LAS AMERICAS RACECOURSE  
The Hipodromo de Las Americas is a racecourse situated in Mexico City and is currently the countries only thoroughbred racecourse. It was built in the early 1930's and was designed by John Sloan, a New York architect.
  Racing first came to the Hipodromo in 1943 and the course hosts the Mexican Derby run each July.

 

 
Apart from the Derby its principal races are the Mexico Futurity run each August and the Handicap de Las Americas which had its inaugural running in 1943 when Big Step was victorious,.

 

  The track had to close for about 3 years in the 1990's but is currently fully operational.
