The Balnarring Racecourse can be located on Mornington Peninsula and is between Western Port Bays and Port Philip.
Records show that racing began in the area in 1863 on the site of todays racecourse. It was run by Balnarring and Hastings Racing Club. It became Balnarring Racing Club in 1882 but it was not until 1933 that it became Balnarring Picnic Racing Club.

It was traditional in those early days to host one meeting per year annually on Boxing Day. By 1918 it had increased this to twice per year.
Its principal race is the Balnarring Cup, first run in 1948 when won by Helenette. By 1987 it had introduced a new tote and by 1991 new starting stalls.
