POOLSTOCK GREYHOUND STADIUM

This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for the scans of badges on this page.

The Lancashire town of Wigan had two greyhound tracks in the past, the one at Poolstock being situated on Baker Street at 2° 38' W 53° 32' N. Both of the tracks where speedway took place in Wigan were also used initially as greyhound racing circuits. Indeed, the Poolstock Stadium held its first meeting on 9th March 1932 and was to continue racing for 41 years.

The Woodhouse Lane track held a meeting even earlier on 17th March 1928 and continued to race until 1961.

It closed for the final time in March 1973 and the ground on which the track once stood is now covered by a housing estate.

This section gives a comprehensive picture of the badges produced by the track throughout the ages, but only provides the briefest of glimpses of its history. For those wishing to undertake further research we can recommend a visit to
