PETERSHAM RACECOURSE
It is known that a well attended meeting took place at Petersham in 1844 and, prior to that meeting, in the very early 1840's the course was so advanced in its thinking that admission charges were made for all attending by owner Thomas Shaw. He also owned the public house on the course.
This was a 'park course' in Australia some 35 years before England established its first 'park course' at Sandown in 1875.
