HALIFAX GREYHOUND STADIUM

This site is not an official website for the track shown here and is neither approved or endorsed by the stadium. I am indebted to Richard English for helping to construct this page.

The greyhound track in the Yorkshire town of Halifax was situated on the perimeter of the local cricket ground at 1° 53' W 53° 43' N and first held racing on 5th November 1931. The track was at Thrum Hall and ran sprint races over 300 yards, standard races over 480 yards, including handicaps which were popular with the betting public, and extended races over 500 yards. The stewards just after the War were H.Wood (the Managing Director), J.Kay (Assistant Manager), A.Hampson and W.Longbottom.

In its early days it operated as an independent flapping track, but it switched to racing under rules in 1975. It finally closed its gates in 1979.

This section gives a comprehensive picture of the badges produced by the track throughout the ages, but only provides the briefest of glimpses of its history. For those wishing to undertake further research we can recommend a visit to
