This was run on Wednesday 5th June 1889 and the winner was bred by the 6th Duke of Portland and trained by George Dawson at Newmarket. There were 13 runners from an initial entry of 169. The winner won by 1 1/2 lengths in 2 mins 44.4 secs, with a good distance between second and third.



The winner won a first prize of £4,050, (The equivalent of £494,700 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator).
