This was run on Wednesday 19th May 1847 and the winner was bred by Mr Robert Cary Elwes of Great Billing Hall, Northamptonshire, and trained by John Day at Danebury. There were 32 runners from an initial entry of 188. The winner won by a length in 2 mins 52 secs, with 4 lengths between second and third. The first prize was £5,500, (The equivalent of £542,400 in today's terms based on Bank of England inflation calculator).
