SP Case.JPG (5768 bytes) Speedway has been held in 3 different locations in Berwick since the initial meeting at the home of Berwick Rangers Football Club, Shielfeld Park Stadium on 18th May 1968. A crowd in excess of 3000 witnessed that first event, although Berwick suffered a 41-37 defeat at the hands of Newcastle Colts.

The team operated in British League Division 2 for 6 years but became founder members of the New National League in 1975.By 1980 the team were made homeless when asked to leave Berwick Rangers Football ground and had to stage fixtures at a variety of venues in the North.

The team have been Knockout Cup winners on 3 occasions, 1980, 1989 and 1995, and were also Four-Team champions in 2002. The team have been members of the Premier League since 1997 and have enjoyed a prolonged spell up to the present day. The team has always had the nickname of the Bandits, although its amateur team were known quite cutely as The Border Raiders.
