The Jockey Club of South Africa was formed in Port Elizabeth in 1882. Arlington Racecourse is situated in Port Elizabeth and is administered by Phumelela Gaming and Leisure, as is its neighbouring course of Fairview some 30 kilometres away.
  Its principal race is the Group 3 East Cape Derby run over 2400 metres in May, and the most recent winner was Just Like Al beating Paris Perfect.

 

 
A Festival of Racing takes place in late October. The Festival includes the Group 3 Algoa Cup and the Listed Racing association Stakes run over a mile.
  The latest running of the Algoa Cup over 2000 metres saw Bill of Rights win.
